Tips and tricks
Place your fabric right-side down on the fabric mat. Patterns are designed to be cut right-side down. It also makes it easier to see washable pen marks on darker fabrics or more complex patterns
If your mat has a few threads, don’t worry about it. Place your next piece of fabric right on top and the blade will cut through it
When your mat is new, just use your fingers to lightly press the fabric onto your mat
When your mat is worn in, use more pressure, or use a brayer to help your fabric stick to your mat
Be patient when pulling your pieces off the mat and they’ll be less like to stretch.
Keep your hands off. The oils in your fingers quickly contaminate the adhesive on the mat, causing it to lose its stick. Try to avoid touching the adhesive if possible. You can use a brayer to help adhere your fabric to your mat if that helps (don’t press hard, just enough to adhere the fabric to the mat). Use tweezers to pick up your pieces off the mat so that you keep your fingers away from the adhesive
Don’t use a scraper! The adhesive on the fabric mat is different to the pro mats and you can scrape the adhesive right off the mat.
If the threads are really building up you or are noticing they are affecting your cuts, then you can use a piece of light tack masking tape to pull up the loose threads. Test the masking tape on a small area first. If the tape is too strong it can pull the adhesive away. Also it needs to be lightly dabbed, just enough pressure to remove threads and other debris.
Care and attention
After each use, remove all material from your mat and replace the dust cover to keep the mat surface free of dust
Baby wipes contain moisturiser which can weaken the adhesive
Alcohol wipes can neutralise the adhesive
To refresh the mat use really light tack masking tape/lint roller to remove dust & fibres but only when the mat start to lose its strength & not between every cut. Test the masking tape on a small area first. If the tape is too strong it can pull the adhesive away. Also it needs to be lightly dabbed, just enough pressure to remove dust & fibres
Don't use solvents anywhere on the sheet ever.
When the tack is completely flat the mat can be washed with hot water to and left to dry
Laying the sheet dust sheet down under a heavy book when not in use also helps re-constitute the adhesive and stops the sheet from warping.
Please take care of the sheet and markings as the machine will not recognise the mat if it is warped or the registration marks are damaged
